Fred spent 37 years as the Owner and President of Zip Signs Ltd., an outdoor sign company built on strong relationships and teamwork. He was fortunate to lead an incredible group of employees and serve great clients across Canada. During his career, Fred also contributed to the industry through positions on the Ontario Industry Board, the National Industry Board, and through involvement in international projects.

Fred’s dedication to his community led him to serve as a Hamilton Police Auxiliary Officer for many years and later as a member of the Hamilton Police Services Board, spending most of his five and a half years as Vice Chair. He and his wife Arlene have three children and four grandchildren, and they are proud to call Hamilton home.

Over the past 35 years, Fred has been deeply involved in volunteer work and governance. These issues affect all of us. When roads aren’t maintained, when taxes climb higher, and when safety becomes a concern, it impacts our quality of life and the future of our neighbourhoods. I believe we need more accountability, smarter spending, and leadership that puts people first.
Ancaster and our surrounding areas agree we should:
1. Build Roads That Work
2. Lower Property Taxes
3. Reduce Crime
4. Serving Residents/Customer Service
Together, we can make sure Hamilton works for everyone!
As a long-time Hamilton resident, I’ve watched our city grow and change — but not always for the better. Over the past few years, City Council has raised property taxes by more than 25%, a decision supported by our local councillor. It’s becoming harder for families and businesses to keep up, and residents deserve better value for their money.
I had the opportunity to speak at a City of Hamilton council meeting regarding the City’s budget and its impact on residents across our community.
This clip highlights one key point I emphasized: with rising property taxes, water rates, and overall cost-of-living pressures, many residents are feeling unheard and overburdened.
Residents are no longer asking for moderation, they are asking for relief.

LIUNA is pleased to endorse Fred Bennink for Ward 12 Councillor. Fred is experienced, capable and determined. He is committed to improving our city and will serve not only the citizens of Ancaster, but all Hamiltonians with integrity, commitment and strength.
I know Fred Bennink to be an honest, ethical leader who is concerned about the long-term sustainability of Hamilton. He is able to deal with complex issues and considers the potential impact of decision making.

I enthusiastically endorse Fred Bennink as a candidate for City of Hamilton Councillor representing Ward 12, Ancaster and West Flamborough. He is a proven business leader, a former member of the Board of Hamilton Police Services and volunteer in our community. He has a good grasp on the issues the public support in Ancaster. Please join me in supporting Fred in the upcoming municipal election.
Lloyd Ferguson | Former Councillor for 16 years Ward 12 Ancaster

Bruce Pearson | Past Chair, Board of overnors at Hillfield Strathallen College.
We need change, and Fred Bennink is a person with Integrity who also understands the need for financial discipline. Hamilton has been led by certain councillors who have their own “Dogma” and have not focused on the needs of the ratepayers. This must change, and Fred would be a great addition to Council.
Peter Turkstra | President Turkstra Lumber
As a former Sergeant with the Hamilton Police Service, I’m proud to endorse Fred Bennink for Ward 12. During his time on the Hamilton Police Services Board, Fred made a point of meeting annually with frontline officers to hear their concerns. I also walked the downtown core with him as he spoke with members of the homeless community. Fred listens, he cares, and he works to understand the needs of everyone in our community.
Pete Wiesner | 22 years Hamilton Police, Most Recent: Supervisor Crisis Response Branch (MCRRT, CO
I have known Fred Bennink for nearly 2 decades. An esteemed and successful business operator/owner in the GTHA area for over 30 years.
Over the years, I have learned and respected that Fred has taken his business acumen and applied it to his desire to give back to the community. He truly wants to make our cities and government a better place for all individuals. Fred is a model of consistency and trust. When it comes to giving back to the community and the place he calls home (Ancaster / Hamilton), he has spent countless hours on various high-profile boards. Fred has always had a passion for common sense and making things affordable for the everyday individual. I endorse Fred Bennink for his riding in Ancaster and believe that all constituents and taxpayers in Hamilton would be delighted to have Fred as a much needed, voice of reason at city hall fighting for creditability and issues that matter.
